15-month fuel cycle

This has become possible owing to the modernized nuclear fuel of Generation II. It has higher consumer properties and operating characteristics, which improve the plant’s economics. Beginning from 2015 all Paks power units, which operate standard 4.2%-enriched fuel, will be gradually shifted to use the new fuel with higher enrichment within 15-month fuel cycles. The Generation II fuel already has a successful operation history in Russia, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Finland.
