The pancake is made of niobium-titanium (NbTi) superconductors manufactured in Russia in cooperation with the EU. This is the first out of eight two-layer and two-wire pancakes for a PF1 poloidal field coil to be made in Russia. The PF1 coil, together with 5 similar coils, will be used to retain plasma inside the thermonuclear reactor.
